Her Calf
As cowboys herded cattle through a deep-water crossing, one cowboy scoops up a newborn calf to safety. Friberg depicts a misunderstanding between the cowboy and the calf’s mother, both of whom prioritize the well-being of the newborn calf. Friberg’s detail of the grass-covered mountains, the ripples in the creek, the onlooking cattle, and the wild-eyed horse make this an especially compelling piece.
